Physical Keyboards Challenge Generation Z
A Wall Street Journal study reveals that, despite being considered digital natives, many Generation Z individuals (born between 1997 and 2012) lack the skills to type on physical keyboards without looking at them, potentially affecting their academic and professional performance.
The report notes that 39% of schoolwork is submitted via mobile devices, mostly using mobile keyboards.
This trend shows growing reliance on mobile technology, where touchscreen typing is the norm. Companies have noticed that some young employees struggle to type quickly and accurately on physical keyboards, raising concerns about productivity.
Although digitalisation has brought advances, the lack of basic skills such as typing on physical keyboards could be a barrier for young people entering the job market, where these tools remain essential for many tasks. Adapting to this change will be crucial to improving their workplace performance.
