China is closing the gap with the United States in the race for artificial intelligence, according to the 2025 report from Stanford's Institute for Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence (HAI).

While OpenAI and Google remain at the forefront, China’s DeepSeek-R1 model is achieving comparable performance with fewer computational resources.

The Asian giant leads in academic publications and patent filings, whereas the United States continues to produce the most prominent AI models.
Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly global, with significant developments emerging from Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

There is also a growing trend towards open-source models, such as those released by Meta and Mistral. Improvements in technological efficiency are broadening the scope for practical applications.
